Rodent Control in Southern California

Rodent droppings are one of the most obvious signs of an infestation. Mouse droppings are small and pellet-like, while rat droppings are larger and more oval-shaped. You’ll typically find them near food sources, along baseboards, inside cabinets, or in hidden areas like attics and garages. Fresh droppings are dark and moist, while older ones become dry and crumbly. 

Scratching, squeaking, or movement inside walls or ceilings is often an early sign of rodents. Rats and mice are most active at night, so these sounds are usually easier to notice when the house is quiet. You may hear them moving through insulation, wall voids, or attic spaces. Frequent or worsening noises often indicate growing rodent activity.

Rodents can squeeze through surprisingly small openings around foundations, vents, utility lines, doors, and windows. Once inside, they search for food, warmth, and nesting areas in places like attics, walls, and crawl spaces. If these entry points are not sealed, infestations can continue growing over time.

Rodents build nests using materials like insulation, cardboard, paper, and fabric. These nests are often hidden behind appliances, inside walls, or in storage areas. Shredded materials or debris piles are common warning signs. Finding nesting activity usually means rodents have settled in and may already be reproducing nearby.

Rats and mice constantly chew to keep their teeth from overgrowing, often damaging wood, plastic, furniture, and food packaging. In severe infestations, rodents may chew through electrical wiring, increasing fire risk. Damage is commonly found in hidden or low-traffic areas where rodents are nesting.

Strong, musty odors can signal a rodent infestation, especially in enclosed spaces like attics, cabinets, or crawl spaces. As droppings and urine accumulate, the smell often becomes more noticeable over time. In some cases, foul odors may indicate a rodent has died inside a wall or hidden area.
