FAQs

While some DIY methods can offer temporary relief for minor pest issues, they rarely solve the root cause of an infestation. Pests can be resilient, but professional pest control ensures effective, long-lasting elimination through targeted treatments and expert knowledge. Many over-the-counter products only treat visible pests while leaving hidden nests, colonies, or breeding areas untouched. Professional technicians are trained to identify the source of infestations and apply treatments designed for longer-lasting protection.

The duration of treatment and the time to see results depend on the type of pest, the severity of the infestation, and the chosen treatment method. Following your initial treatment, most services take approximately 15 to 30 minutes. For many pests, you may see a reduction in activity within days, with full results becoming apparent within a few weeks. However, some pests may appear more active immediately after treatment, as products flush them out of hiding places before elimination. We ask that you allow 7–10 days for the initial treatment to take effect. If you still see an inordinate number of pests, give us a call, and we will re-service your home free of charge.

In most cases, you do not need to vacate your home during our regular maintenance visits, especially for exterior treatments. Our technicians will inform you if any specific treatment requires you to leave the premises for a short period. We always provide clear instructions beforehand so you know exactly what to expect before, during, and after service.

When applied properly by licensed professionals, pest control treatments are carefully formulated to protect both families and pets. Our technicians provide clear instructions before and after treatment, including how long pets should avoid freshly treated areas if necessary. Most routine exterior treatments dry quickly, but keeping pets away from application areas until products have fully settled helps reduce unnecessary exposure. Customers should also notify technicians about pet doors, outdoor feeding areas, fish ponds, or sensitive animals before treatment begins.

While it’s rare for pests to develop widespread resistance to all treatments, it is a consideration. Our pest control professionals are knowledgeable about pest biology and rotate products and methods as needed to prevent resistance and ensure effective control. This is especially important with pests like German cockroaches and certain ant species, which can adapt more quickly when the same treatment methods are repeatedly overused without proper rotation or integrated prevention strategies.

Our spray treatments are odorless, fumeless, and residue-free. They typically dry within 20 minutes, making it difficult to detect where they’ve been applied. Unlike older pest control products that sometimes left strong chemical smells behind, many modern treatments are specifically designed for low visibility and minimal interruption inside homes and businesses.

Because every home and pest infestation is unique, a customized plan may be necessary. In most situations, exterior service is sufficient, and many clients prefer it. We do, however, recommend an initial interior clean-out service. Since 99% of pests enter from outside, a consistent exterior service is usually enough to keep your home pest-free. If you require interior assistance, please do not hesitate to call us. However, interior treatments are often recommended for pests already nesting indoors, such as cockroaches, silverfish, fleas, or heavy ant infestations that have spread into kitchens, pantries, or bathrooms.

Our products are formulated to withstand typical weather conditions. In most cases, light rain after an outdoor treatment will not significantly impact its effectiveness. Most exterior products are designed to bond to treated surfaces once dry, but excessive rainfall immediately after service can sometimes shorten the lifespan of certain perimeter applications. Therefore, if heavy rain is expected, we may recommend rescheduling or applying a different type of treatment.

Yes, our pest control services are effective for all types of residences, including townhomes and condos. We tailor our treatments to the specific needs of your living space and the pests present. Shared walls, plumbing systems, attics, and neighboring units can sometimes facilitate pest spread between residences, which is why ongoing treatment and coordinated property management services are often especially helpful in multi-unit communities.

We also service all types of commercial properties such as: Condos/Townhome Communities (managed by HOAs), Retail centers/Strip Malls, Shopping Plazas, Office Buildings, Warehouses, Convenience/Grocery Stores, Medical Clinics/Rehab Centers, Churches/Religious Centers, Salons/Spas/Gyms, Industrial Facilities. We prioritize the health and safety of your family and pets. We use products registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and can discuss eco-friendly and organic options based on your specific pest issues and preferences. In some situations, reducing moisture problems, sealing entry points, improving sanitation, or modifying landscaping can significantly reduce pest activity while limiting the amount of product needed around the property.

The ideal schedule depends on the property, pest activity, and level of protection desired. Monthly services provide the most proactive coverage, while bi-monthly and quarterly plans offer varying levels of maintenance and prevention. Our team can help recommend the best schedule based on your specific pest concerns and long-term goals. If you decide to adjust your recurring service frequency after your plan has begun, we are happy to transition you to a different schedule that better fits your needs.

No pest control company can guarantee you will never see another pest, especially in Southern California, where insects and rodents remain active year-round. Pests can still enter through open doors, packages, plants, pets, neighboring properties, or outdoor conditions. However, recurring pest control services significantly reduce activity and help prevent infestations from becoming severe. If pest activity increases between services, Preventive Pest Control provides additional treatments at no extra charge.

Recurring maintenance services are designed to maintain a consistent, long-term exterior defense against common Southern California pests.

  • Duration: Most services take approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Preparation & Presence: You do not need to be home for regular maintenance visits, especially for exterior treatments, but we ask that you unlock gates and secure pets away from the work area.
  • The Treatment: The technician will apply EPA-registered, odorless, fumeless, and residue-free products and methods (sprays, baits, granules, dusts, etc.) customized to your specific needs. A list of the products used is provided after each service.

Peace of Mind: Recurring service significantly reduces pest activity and prevents severe infestations. If you see any pests covered by your plan between scheduled services, contact us and we will provide an additional treatment at no extra charge under our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

We work 6 days of the week and can typically provide next-day service to most areas. Please speak to a member of our customer service team to determine the next available service for your home or business. Availability may vary slightly during peak pest season when ant, mosquito, rodent, and wasp activity tends to increase across Southern California.

Yes, we believe in the quality of our work. That’s why we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on our Residential & Commercial pest control services. If you are not happy with the results, we will provide additional service at no extra charge until the pest issue is resolved. By regularly servicing your home, we guarantee a high level of service that will satisfy you. Our goal is not just short-term pest reduction, but long-term protection and peace of mind for your property.

One-time services are for immediate pest problems, while ongoing services provide continuous protection against various pests throughout the year. We’ve learned through years of experience that one treatment will rarely solve every pest issue, making ongoing service more effective for long-term pest prevention. Many pests reproduce in cycles, meaning eggs or hidden colonies may survive the initial service and become active again weeks later if no continued protection is in place. In addition, pests remain active during different seasons throughout the year, so ongoing service helps break infestation patterns before they become larger problems again.

Yes, you can! While we hope you stay with us for a full one-year cycle to experience the true, long-term difference professional pest management makes, we understand that life happens. If unexpected circumstances come up and you need to discontinue your service, simply contact our office. We will help you update your account and arrange a convenient time to retrieve any pest control equipment from your property.

You do not need to be home for our regular maintenance visits. We kindly request that you provide our technicians with access to your yard by unlocking gates and securing pets away from the work area. Many customers appreciate the convenience of exterior-only services that can be completed while they are away at work or running errands.

Depending on your chosen maintenance plan, recurring services are scheduled 30, 60, or 90 days (plus or minus 7 days) from your last completed maintenance service. We will send you a reminder via text, email, or phone call the day before your scheduled service, based on your preference. If you opt for text notifications, you’ll also receive a text reminder from our technician when they are en route to your home or business. These reminders help ensure customers have time to unlock gates, move pets indoors, or communicate any concerns before treatment begins.

All Preventive Pest Control technicians are licensed by the California Structural Pest Control Board, with license numbers provided on your post-service report. We also ensure our team remains current on the latest products, procedures, and treatment techniques through ongoing company training. California licensing requires technicians to meet state education standards and follow strict regulations regarding product handling, safety, and application procedures.

Preventive Pest Control uses only products registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. We utilize a variety of methods and products tailored to the specific pest and your home, including targeted sprays, baits, granules, dusts, traps, and exclusion techniques. Our goal is to use the most effective and safest methods possible to eliminate pests. At each service, we provide a list of products used. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available upon request for every product we utilize. Different pests require different treatment strategies, which is why technicians customize applications based on pest behavior, infestation severity, and property conditions.

No. Our modern pest control products are specifically chosen to be safe for your home’s surfaces. Our spray treatments are odorless, fumeless, and residue-free, and they dry quickly (typically within 20 minutes) without leaving any visible residue or causing damage to baseboards, flooring, walls, or other household materials.

Preparation varies depending on the type of treatment. Generally, it’s helpful to declutter areas where pests are active, remove pet food and water bowls, and ensure easy access for our technicians. Specific instructions will be provided before your service. For treatments involving rodents, cockroaches, fleas, or bed bugs, additional preparation may sometimes be necessary to improve treatment access and overall effectiveness.

Signs of an infestation can vary depending on the pest, but common indicators include seeing live pests, finding droppings, gnaw marks on food packaging or structures, unusual odors, or discovering nests or webs. Other warning signs may include scratching sounds in walls or ceilings, grease marks along baseboards, damaged plants (all of which could signify a rodent infestation), hollow-sounding wood (an indicator of termite activity), or a sudden increase in pest sightings around kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces.

We specialize in effective gopher control. Since every situation is unique, our trained technicians offer a free inspection to assess your specific needs. They will consider factors such as the number of gophers, challenging locations like slopes, soil conditions, and consistent gopher activity in your neighborhood. Following the inspection, our technician will provide an estimate, and we guarantee the removal of those pesky gophers. Fresh crescent-shaped dirt mounds and soft, raised tunnels beneath the lawn are often early indicators that gophers are actively burrowing underground.

While complete mosquito elimination isn’t guaranteed, our proven system has effectively served thousands of customers. Since 2020, we’ve deployed the In2Care Mosquito system. We highly recommend this product, offering monthly treatments from April to November. Because mosquitoes can breed in very small amounts of standing water, reducing moisture around gutters, flowerpots, drains, bird baths, and outdoor containers can dramatically improve mosquito results.

Effective rodent control primarily relies on exclusion. Given that mice can enter through gaps as small as a dime and rats through quarter-sized openings, sealing all cracks and holes with caulk and steel wool is an excellent preventive measure. After securing these entry points, we implement various rodent control solutions, including snap traps, glue boards, and targeted baiting programs. Our team comprises dedicated rodent control technicians who specialize in both trapping and exclusion techniques. Attics, garages, crawl spaces, rooflines, and utility pipe openings are some of the most common rodent entry points found during inspections.

Coverage is designed around the pests most commonly found throughout Southern California homes and businesses. Some specialty pests, such as termites, bed bugs, Gophers and moles, Whiteflies/Aphids/Mealy Bugs found on plants or trees, indoor infestations of Fleas & Ticks, German cockroaches, wildlife, or rat infestations in the living space or attic, typically require separate treatment plans because they involve more advanced control methods or ongoing monitoring.

We offer solutions to other, less common pests that might find their way into your home or yard. Customers who are on our regular maintenance programs receive discounted prices for these specialty services:

  • Rat Trapping & Exclusion
  • Mosquito Treatments
  • Termites (Drywood & Subterranean)
  • German Roaches
  • Gophers & Moles
  • Indoor Fleas & Ticks
  • Whiteflies & Aphids
  • Carpet Beetles
  • Pantry Moths

Many specialty pest problems require more customized treatment plans because the pests behave differently from standard household insects. For example, termite treatments may involve wood treatments or inspections, while rodent exclusion focuses on sealing entry points to prevent reinfestation.
